It’s been a busy week of patriotic betting at UK’s Betfair with both England football team playing, Lewis Hamilton racing and of course the England rugby team getting into the World Cup final! After the England team won the semi-final bookmakers rated England at 66/1 to retain their crown. Ladbrokes went as far as 80/1. But on Betfair, the online betting exchange, the odds slipped to as long as 279/1. One user managed to stake £12 at 279/1 on England winning the World Cup, while nearly £10,000 changed hands at odds of longer than 100/1. Source: Times.co.uk.

The football federation in Australia has announced a product fee and integrity agreement with Betfair. As you already know Betfair operates in just the UK and Australia. This agreement means the FFA (Football Federation in Australia) will receive a small share of any revenue bet on Australia football through the Australian Betfair website. It also means the FFA will have access to betting details that take place so that they can watch out for strange betting patterns easier.
“Over the past couple of years we have worked hard with other major sports to receive a share of revenue from betting on our events and access to information relevant to managing the integrity of our competitions,” said FFA chief executive Ben Buckley.

Betfair have won the ‘Operator of the Year’ award at the eGaming Awards in London on Friday at the National History Museum.
This award recognizes the operator that has set the standards for others to follow during 2006/7. The judges will be looking for a player that has dominated its respective market(s) and from the front. It is not a reward for the largest operator, but scale will be a major consideration. Judges will be looking for a winner that has clearly differentiated itself from the chasing pack in its sector, or an operator that has successfully developed the broadest and most geographically diverse product range.
Alongside Betfair as Operator of the Year, Everest Poker won Poker Operator of the Year, 888 won Casino Operator of the Year and Sportingbet won European Sportsbook Operator of the Year. Read more…

After a successful year Betfair maybe returning some of its money to investors. They are sitting on a fund of £180 million with no debt. Betfair has promised some form of “liquidity event” to allow some of its shareholders, many of whom have been investors since it was formed in 2000, to realise their holdings. Options include a refinancing, bringing in a third-party investor, or a straightforward return of cash. A flotation has been ruled out in the short term. We’re also very sure that a large portion of it will go towards more research & development, further increasing Betfair’s current services as well as adding additional ones.
